This vintage large Native American Hopi Kachina Mudhead Doll is handmade and signed by Susie Benally. It was hand-carved from cottonwood and has pieces of leather - wood and leather were hand-painted by the artist.
The Mudhead (Hopi: Koyemsi) is a popular Hopi and Zuni figure who serves as a disciplinarian, joker, and ceremonial announcer.
This kachina is in excellent condition. I am the original owner and have kept this Mudhead Kachina in a display case since purchasing it in the mid 1980s. There are no nicks, scratches, or repairs. Please refer to the photos to see the condition and notice the superb detail.
This kachina is a unique design, perfect for display, and makes a fine addition to a collection. It is 11.5" tall, 5” wide at the widest point, and weighs 7.1 ounces.
