Vintage Indian white metal and enamel elephant figurine with riders intricately decorated throughout with bright, polychrome enamel work, a style known as Meenakari in India. The figurine depicts an elephant adorned with rich, ornamental coverings and two figures (mahout and a noble person) seated in a howdah (carriage) on its back, protected by a parasol. The piece is embellished with floral and foliage motifs, and the howdah features decorative hanging white beads and red glass stones. The figurine sits on a oval base with a lotus petal border. This vintage piece is typically Indian in origin, possibly from Lucknow, dating from the mid-20th century or earlier. Measures 2 1/8"L x 1 1/2"W x 2 1/2"T. In overall good condition considering age of piece, there are two places on the black border on the base where the emamel has chipped off. See 1st and 4th photo.
